2/20/2023 0 Comments Crazy stupid love screenit– Deren Elif Akın Other honourable mentions: Inception, Shutter IslandĪ film that could have easily become yet another chase sequence filled action film *cough*fast and the furious*cough* Drive is surprisingly tender. Darren Aronofsky creates undoubtedly one of the best films of the decade in this story of a ballerina’s descent into be-feathered madness. It is a film that wraps itself around your brain and leaves you speechless as the plot unfolds in front of you. The slow emergence of Nina’s dark side as she pushes herself to the edge of sanity to perfect the role is disturbing yet seductive in a way that draws you in. The film’s fragile protagonist Nina ( Natalie Portman) is a ballerina awarded the duel roles of the white and black swan but is tested to her limits when a new rival, who seems more ideally suited to the black swan role, arrives. – Sabastian Astleyīlack Swan Black Swan (2010, Fox Searchlight Pictures)Īlmost a decade has passed since Darren Aronofsky’s wild psychological thriller Black Swan was first released. Scott Pilgrim is the film that keeps on giving, and you’ll always find something new in every re-watch. To me, it’s a masterpiece of production all the easter eggs, small cues and foreshadowing for what’s to come, not to mention the level of practical effects? Not to mention the soundtrack, both the score and the soundtrack are timeless in how amazing they are. I’ve seen it at least 10 times now – I even used to fall asleep listening to the multiple commentaries on the DVD. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is what began my obsession with film. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010, Universal Pictures) With stunning direction from David Fincher, and perhaps the best-composed score of all time from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network still holds up a decade later as one of the best films of the 2010’s. Eisenberg and Garfield deliver career-defining performances that still, ten years later, bring me to tears as they portray two best friends falling out of love with each other. While the film presents itself as a biopic concerning scorned nerd-turned-billionaire Mark Zuckerberg ( Jesse Eisenberg), at the heart of this story is the friendship between him and his best friend Eduardo ( Andrew Garfield). I don’t care what anyone says, The Social Network is a romantic-dramedy. So without further ado… 2010 The Social Network The Social Network (2010, Sony Pictures Releasing) Our collectively decided cream of the cinema crop. To celebrate the ending of 2019, as well as an entire decade, Obscur’s writers have joined together to discuss their favourite films of the previous one. It will be a little odd to see them playing lovers, considering Affleck is 40 and Kristen Stewart is only 22, but maybe Ficarra and Requa can find a way to avoid making it weird.Well, after an incredibly bizarre year, 2020 is finally here. For me, Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom is the ultimate conman movie that deconstructed the genre so perfectly that it makes watching anything else kind of fall flat (sort of like watching a horror movie after seeing Cabin in the Woods), so we'll see if the teaming of Affleck and Stewart with this material can bring a spark to the screen. Sounds a bit like the Tony Gilroy film Duplicity with a touch of Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men thrown in for good measure. Now Variety reports that Twilight star Kristen Stewart is now in talks to play the female lead, new to grifting.Īfter the veteran conman gets romantically involved with the rookie, the story gets complicated when they run into each other again once they've gone their separate ways. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were initially going to star at one point, and when those two had to move on, the writer/directors snagged Argo director Ben Affleck to play the male lead of a veteran conman. Since then, they've been busy lining up new projects, the most prominent of which is a conman story called Focus that's set up at Warner Bros. Directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa wrote and directed I Love You Phillip Morris back in '09 but really hit the mainstream with Crazy, Stupid, Love in 2011.
